Aistear - socio-dramatic

An Aistear play session consists of setting up 4-5 play areas in the classroom. These may include: physical, creative, socio-dramatic and small world play. For example, the four areas may be ‘the doctor’s surgery’, play dough, sand play, lego/block play and junk art. The children plan what they are going to carryout in their play area, then they play and finally they reflect on what happened. Assessment checklists are a way of assessing the children’s performances. E.g. can children take turns, can children recognise the number 4 on the telephone, can children construct a tall tower and use maths language to describe it? Here are some photos of children in each of the play areas.
