Maths For Fun Initiative Print

Over the past number of years, we have run a “Maths for Fun Hour” in the school, which takes place one morning a week.

This consists of the children playing different maths games at different stations in the class for one hour. The aim of our initiative is to foster a love of mathematical thinking and practices through playing games and hands-on activities around the classroom.

The programme also affords parents a chance to become involved and experience classroom life, by supervising and guiding a particular ‘maths station’, with pupils rotating from station to station.

For parents and teachers, as well as the pupils themselves, the experience is overwhelmingly positive. Our overall aim is to afford the children the chance to develop their own learning strategies in mathematics, as well as teaching them skills of collaboration and co-operation.
