Uganda Updates from Ms. Sheeran Print

We in St. Brigid’s B.N.S. are delighted to hear from Ms. Sheeran who is working in a special school in Uganda. We wish her every success in her fantastic volunteer work. Maith thú Ms. Sheeran!

The children are very excited to be threading beads for the first time today.

One of the boys found a chameleon when he was cleaning the compound!

Update on Mama Kits from Ms. Sheeran:

‘Yesterday, Saturday 20th March, I had the great thrill of packing the Mama Kits for our Safe Motherhood Programme. Josephat and myself joined Dickson, Carol, Robinah and Jimmy James from the Rural Health Care Foundation Uganda to pack 224 Mama Kits for the mothers on our programme. They will be distributed to 21 villages over the next few weeks so that expectant mothers can have their babies safely in local maternity clinics.
I would like to thank all the teachers and staff of St. Brigid’s B.N.S. who bought the Christmas cards that makes this programme possible.

The Mama Kits contain a plastic sheet, 2 pairs of surgical gloves, 2 surgical blades and 2 ties for tying the chord, a bar of medicated soap, a roll of cotton wool, a mosquito net, a cotton wrap for the baby and a hat/cardigan/blanket knitted by one of many talented and generous women in  Ireland.
The maternity clinics have midwives and nurses but no resources. If you turn up to the clinic in labour and without a Mama Kit, you will be sent home'
