St. Brigid’s Outdoor Classroom was established in 2023. It is a wonderful space to the side of the school consisting of mud kitchens and tuff trays for messy play, blackboards, a hundred square and mirrors.

 

There are curved benches and an oversized story-time chair where classes can sit and listen to stories or have classes outside.

 

There are tyres and resources for building and creating giant marble runs to encourage creativity, resources for supporting lessons on capacity and weight and the classroom’s position under the trees ensures easy observation of nature and the elements.

 

The Outdoor Classroom provides us with many opportunities to support our commitment to integrating playful learning approaches, Aistear, and experiential learning activities for all of our pupils.

Each class has an assigned time in the Outdoor Classroom. As well as opportunities for formal lessons in a relaxed and different setting, the Outdoor Classroom has been the ideal venue for Teddy Bears’ Picnics and Summer Festivals.
