Croke Park Champions - 8th June 2022 Print

Corn Uí Néill: Brigid’s seal the deal!

What a display. What a victory. St. Brigid’s Senior hurlers came to Croke Park and with the backing of an amazing following, they rose to the occasion against a strongly favoured GS Bhrian Bóroimhe outfit. They cast the shackles of expectation aside and wrote their names in the history books. In what was a rip-roaring contest both teams started at whirlwind pace. Scores were traded as every inch was fought for. The critical juncture of the game came late on as we laid siege to the opposition goal. In a barnstorming last 5 minutes we blitzed the opposition with two clinically finished goals. The final whistle was met with scenes of euphoria as weeks of hard graft culminated in an epic triumph, in Croke Park of all places. Silverware was coming back to the Howth Road. What a journey. What a day!

Croke Park Here We Come Print

Sometimes when you nod off at night wonderful dreams float around your head, as if the BFG himself, planted them there. Wonderful thoughts that light up the darkest of nights. Imagining you are Stephen Cluxton landing that epic winning 45 or Lar Corbett fist pumping after completing a magical hat trick to down the Cats. Playing in Croke Park is a dream. A dream that rarely comes to fruition. A dream that is for the superstars of our Gaelic Games. For our senior hurling team, that dream is their reality.

This Wednesday, the 8th June, all paths lead to Croke Park as our boys from 5th and 6th class look to bring the Corn Uí Néill trophy back to Killester. This monumental achievement is one that will live long in the memories. Many have gone to watch amazing spectacles in Croke Park, few have graced the hallowed turf.

At 2.20pm on Wednesday, our own will take to the field against Gaelscoil Bhrian Bóroimhe, with the winner taking home the spoils. Whatever happens on the day we are so immensely proud of all our hurlers. What an incredible group they are to have gotten the school this far. We will wear the orange and black of St. Brigid’s with pride and lose our voices in shouting on our school mates. We ask parents to come along and support us like you always have. It is immensely appreciated and we, as a school community, know that such days cannot happen without this unwavering support of parents and guardians.

Best wishes to all the boys and mentors involved. You guys are the ones who we all look up to. You guys make dreams a reality!!
